The devastating changes in the economy prompted us to pull together our very best assets and expert advise to help the breast cancer community address any potential concerns they might have about their ability to afford care and coverage. Our section, Breast Cancer Treatment and the Economy, will help you navigate financial and employment issues you may be facing.
To better understand how the economy might be impacting you, we sent out a survey within the Breastcancer.org community. We expected to learn that there was some impact, but we were surprised by the scale of the impact and how quickly you felt it. Here’s a quick highlight of what over 500 of you told us:
67% of you are concerned about how the economy will impact your breast cancer treatment or management.
Even among those of you who have finished treatment, 65% of you indicated that you’re still concerned about how the economy might impact your breast cancer management.
12% of you have had to alter your treatment plan because of a change in your financial situation or increasing costs. Specifically, you told us that:
You’ve had to change your treatment plan. For example, you had to choose a shorter duration of treatment, select a less expensive treatment, or change your treatment location.
You’ve sought help from an assistance program, such as Medicaid or Medicare.
You’ve had to forgo treating another health condition in order to pay for breast cancer treatment.
You’ve had to postpone treatment.
With this in mind, we hope our Breast Cancer Treatment and the Economy section is a valuable resource in your breast cancer journey during this tough economic time.
Please help support Breastcancer.org, ensuring we can continue to provide timely, relevant information to all of those affected by breast cancer.
